What do fables, figurative language, and formative assessment have in common?
While I wouldn’t consider myself a grasshopper because this teacher does work hard in preparing her students for the SOL’s, she hadn’t woken up to the new trends in assessment until taking a UVA class in the summer of 2006. That’s when this ant began to assess differently.
Kathy Varney, the ESL teacher, Pam Elgin, ITRT, and I collaboratively taught this lesson. Mrs. Varney brought her culture to the
study of Vietnam by dressing in her country's native dress, sharing foods, speaking the language, bringing CD's of Vietnamese music, and speaking to the students about growing up in Vietnam. Pam Elgin worked one on one with the two students who chose Qwizdom as their summative assessment project.
